How does that work?

What do you mean?
-
I don't see how it becomes impossible for Trump to issue pardons, unless you're meaning "impossible" in another sense. He could issue unconditional pardons to anyone and everyone, right? Or are you depending on the "pardoning can be obstruction" argument?
-
Politically it makes it far more difficult, and may reign Congress in. But even legally, it may make any pardons more clearly obstruction. I dunno. I was sweating.
-
You know, if I were to *guess*, I would *guess* that Trump would lean away from pardoning. I feel like he's going to look for scapegoats, if one harkens back to his feelings "satellite" people around Trump that had done wrongdoing... Pardoning is something he'll keep for family.
-
Maybe. Except Jared's not that far out of Mueller's maw. I suspect that's the real reason he's too "spooked" to testify to SJC: because his first (and maybe second) interview made him realize he's way the fuck out of his depth.

A lesser charge that gets him out of office will make investigating him further much easier.
-
How will it get him out of office. Mueller's not going to CHARGE Trump with obstruction, not for this. He might refer it to Congress.
-
If they still won't act on that..how far down the rabbit hole have you gone?

-
They won't act on it, though Dems will squawk about it a lot. It might tie Trump's hands further on any other obstruction, for one, while Mueller does the conspiracy charges.

I know a lot of people say "RICO" for this & that w/o knowing what it means (ie, the elements). But I know & now even more think it could fit (though tbh I don't know that Mueller needs it). And RICO charges would be so… poetic.
-
Plus, imagine Mueller filing for forfeiture of the presidency.

You could be a Threadster if you were willing to promise we'd get RICO prosecution out of this.

Politically impossible or legally impossible? If legally, I would sincerely like to know about that theory. If politically, I could totally see him getting away with a Saturday night massacre, because there is no political will to hold him accountable in the GOP. Imo.
-
Politically. Maybe even legally -- that is, normally nothing can limit his pardon authority. But if he has already been referred to Congress for obstruction, maybe he could?
-
My understanding is a referral to Congress is worth nothing until such time as the House decides to indict on the basis of the referral.
-
If Mueller is going after Trump (most likely), Imo his plan is to charge the co conspirators with state charges (president can't pardon those) to get them to flip on potus. And maybe, just maybe, if there is enough evidence, house gop won't be able to ignore the referral.
-
Again, this is all imo. And maybe this is all moot if dems win back house before Muller investigation is up.
