Last year, due to Trump's interest in nukes and anti-climate science stance, we moved closer to midnight than any time since the Cold War. What will it be now that he's threatened repeatedly to use nukes, abandoned Puerto Rico post-hurricane, and censored scientists?https://twitter.com/BulletinAtomic/status/956240596594642944 …

"We've come to a grim assessment. As of today, it is two minutes to midnight." This is the closest to doomsday the @BulletinAtomic has ever set its clock in its 71-year history.

The reasons the clock was set to two minutes to midnight are: * Increased likelihood of nuclear weapons use under Trump * Devastating impact of climate change and govt refusal to enact environmental protections to manage current crisis and stave off worse effects

They are now briefly addressing cyberweapons and the potential use of them by terrorists and hostile states. I predict that cyber weapons will be incorporated into future threat assessments, much as climate change now is. It's the most undercovered threat we face.

As someone who covers them, cyber weapons aren't undercovered, at all. They're just harder to deter.

You do a great job covering the issue, as do other reporters. My compaint is not with the quality of the coverage that exists, but that it often doesn't spread to a mass audience and people don't always know the extent of the problem.

And I'm disagreeing with you. If anything the mainstream coverage is TOO alarmist, not enough focused on personal hygiene.

Agree with both points. Ukraine can testify to Russia's current cyber potential. For personal hygiene politicians need to know that using the wrong soap may mean their dirt being used against them:https://twitter.com/Billbrowder/status/956556388150468609 …

So you admit you don't know the least bit about what personal hygiene means in a cyber capacity? Gotcha. Maybe Sarah's right that people are really dumb about this. But again, that means they need to understand what personal hygiene means.

Also, if a tool of cyber hygiene is anti-virus software then yes, using the wrong 'soap' (Kepersky) could get a politicians dirt used against her.

I am stating that any politician who uses Kapersky anti-virus is potenatially open to being hacked and blackmailed. I am stating that for Russian cyber potential in the US: see Ukraine.
