I was interviewed at length for this Glenn Greenwald piece. I spoke abt gender. I also compared Greenwald's skepticism of the RU story w/my increasing focus on it, w/o losing focus on civil liberties. Count how many women quoted in it.http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/01/glenn-greenwald-russia-investigation.html?utm_campaign=nym&utm_medium=s1&utm_source=tw …

FWIW, one of the things I said in the interview was that I thought Glenn had an important point about not just taking RU claims w/o scrutiny. But said diff bt Glenn and I is that I have looked at all the evidence closely, probably more so than anyone else.

I'll bet the editors were quite active & interventionist in the story. The omission you cite is especially notable because most of the key people in my journalism career have been women: Digby, Jane Hamsher, Joan Walsh, Janine Gibson, Betsy & Laura, etc.
-
Do you know what other women were interviewed?
-
No, I don't know who they interviewed beyond who is quoted. I think he spent a day or so at TI's office and presumably spoke to people there, but I'm not sure who. But as I said, except for Snowden & Jeremy, just about every key person in my journalism career was a woman.
-
Yup, and frankly I think Susan Hennessey would be more interesting to hear from on you than Wittes and Baker, given that she was at NSA during Snowden response.
-
It's a remarkable omission and was one of the first things I noticed when I was done reading it.

I nevertheless found the piece quite illuminating, capturing both what I agree with him on and where I think his focus is misplaced. But including those you note were left out could have made it that much more interesting.
-
I'm just frankly stunned zero women were quoted. Not Poitras? Betsy Reed about the Reality Winner story?
-
I would still love to hear you compare Greenwald's skepticism with your increasing focus on it. I tweeted
@jeremyscahill that he should have you guys debate each other on it. -
As a side note, I found the discussion with you and John Sipher surprisingly non-confrontational.
-
I'm hoping Jeremy releases the entire recording. It was very non-confrontational.
-
Did you mean to say that it was confrontational?
-
No. The contrary. Even when I talked abt possibility dossier includes disinfo.
-
Meaning he conceded a lot of the criticisms you've made of his writing on the dossier?

I'd have loved to have heard from Reality Winner, if she's allowed outside contact.
-
Good point. Govt is generally preventing the press to have any access to her, though one did do an interesting profile.
