In a sense, he's reverting to norm -- suing his way out of scrapes -- and doing so with a lawyer he still trusts.
But I suspect, too, they think they know what is coming and they think they can continue to rebut it w/their dossier strategy. They're not entirely wrong. There's still some leaking from Nunes, and Simpson didn't help Dems as much as they think.
But thus far, Mueller has pursued no angles that are fruits of the dossier, at all. And he'll do so less and less going forward. The dossier's failure to cover June 9 meeting will be Trump's downfall.

Still writing up the Simpson testimony. I don't think it helps Dems as much as they think.
What Simpson did was make it nearly impossible to say this investigation has run its course. Support Trump or not, anyone who wants to see a complete investigation has to stand by Mueller at this point.
Where'd he say that? Nothing he said validated the dossier!
The one thing the release did was highlight how disinterested the R's were in what was in it, but we've already seen that in other Congressional hearings w/the but, but leaks, HRC, etc.
