WRT Steele referral SJC did ask Simpson about Steele's declaration.pic.twitter.com/scY9B4X0XR
And more specifically, they did ask whether it was true that Steele didn't share w/journos. (Steele's subsequent declaration backed off this point, admitting he had briefed journos)pic.twitter.com/pewBaDqlxf
FBI did complain about the coverage (probably Corn piece) of stuff from Steele dossier.pic.twitter.com/xtjoCeGNkx
This is how Simpson's testimony stops short of confirming what Steele said in his UK dossiers. Me on why it mattered. https://www.emptywheel.net/2017/09/03/on-the-lawfare-surrounding-the-steele-dossier/ …pic.twitter.com/jl6ZvvSZa4
Simpson first learned Akhmetshin was at the Halifax conference in his testimony.pic.twitter.com/IMIeTZUaaz
Simpson believes FBI reimbursed Steele for expenses to Rome (which I've been saying best explained conflicting stories).pic.twitter.com/H2YFtWoQmB
I get everyone's complaint abt the Oct 31 NYT article. But I'm frankly surprised that Steele wouldn't have considered whether FBI was trying to avoid endangering sources and methods.pic.twitter.com/PSnIRQH0WY
In which Simpson claims to be unaware of the reporting on APT 29 hacking from Summer 2015, claims Fusion's TERRIBLE first post on cyber has new information.pic.twitter.com/630rVJqv3d
Simpson had just finished explaining how they HAD shared the dossier -- before he explained that you'd never share HUMINT.pic.twitter.com/cAOqv6asKZ
Here Simpson points to other, non-public info abt Page's business deals as proof he has been compromised. Those are the ones that would be more useful to see.pic.twitter.com/3PFwZLqZTF
Simpson's answer on whether Steele paid his sources is different than what he said publicly. Mike Morell has said he did.pic.twitter.com/XcVp2Fevz6
One of my favorite moments: GOPer asks Simpson why he didn't have anything nice to say abt Trump and Simpson is like, he's a shitty businessman. No further questions from GOPer.pic.twitter.com/H4t0GKx5l7
This, I think, is Simpson being wise to the real purpose of the question and answering truthfully and well. "Did the FBI tell Steele x?" was asked because if the answer was "yes" the GOP could scream about the FBI "leaking" to Steele.
Yes, but I think it possible FBI asked questions that led Steele to think Pap had come himself, w/o knowing that.
If your staff, @RepRodBlum, would actually read the transcripts carefully, you'd realize how the FISA warrant was not built solely on dossier. Didn't need the memo for that.
