Stephen Miller Spends 12 Minutes Refusing to Answer Whether Trump Met with Russians Offering Dirt https://www.emptywheel.net/2018/01/07/stephen-miller-spends-12-minutes-refusing-to-answer-whether-trump-met-with-russians-offering-dirt/ …

As you contemplate Miller's inability to deny that Trump met the Russians from the June 9 meeting, remember that Miller was the FIRST person George Papadopoulos emailed after learning the Russians were dealing dirt in the form of Hillary emails.

Miller denied: ✔️Knowing anything about the meeting Miller did not deny: ✔️Knowing anything about Russians offering Hillary emails as dirt ✔️Knowing whether Trump met any of the Russians who visited Trump Tower on June 9

43 days before the Trump Tower meeting, the day after learning Russians had email dirt, George Papadopoulos told Miller, “Have some interesting messages coming in from Moscow about a trip when the time is right.”

Here's what the timing of George Papadopoulos' emails to Stephen Miller--who couldn't manage to deny for @jaketapper that Trump met w/Russians dealing dirt--looks like. https://www.emptywheel.net/2018/01/01/the-papadopoulos-delay/ …pic.twitter.com/Z1nOrVVyfH

Nothing here about dirt. On another matter, if P's comment to Aussie diplo started the investigation, why did FBI wait 7 months to interview P?

Yup. But he destroyed his phone and any texts on it. On the delay: https://www.emptywheel.net/2018/01/01/the-papadopoulos-delay/ … I think they delayed more intrusive means during sensitive time.

A correction of your linked article. Not emails "on" Clinton but emails "of" Clinton which would rule out the Wikileaks releases. Also, why not consider an alternative theory that the 7-month delay occurred because P's alleged comment didn't actually trigger the investigation?

You actually appear unaware of some public and non-public aspects of this story, so I'll leave the Clinton comment. Yes, it's possible Pap wasn't deemed that important. It's possible Strzok lost fight over "insurance" policy, & they didn't aggressively pursue during election.

Also possible that the NYT story that the Papadopoulos comment triggered the investigation (displacing the Carter Page explanation) was based on sources who seeking to coverup the dossier's role as trigger of the investigation.

You mean the foreign sources it cites? Why would Australians care?

So am I. I, however, have actually looked at how they describe their sources and the other unnamed sources implied by their sourcing statements. You apparently have not.

1 of 2 / I don't purport to have as much info and expertise as you -- in fact I don't have *any* expertise. But there's been enough false reporting to justify consideration of an alternative explanation that the NYT may have been willingly manipulated by

2 of 2 / sources who wanted to protect the dossier against allegations that it was cause of the investigation.

Sure. Except the record suggests something else happened. So to make you're argument you're deliberately ignoring the record.

1of2: Here are the sources that NYT cites when asserting that Papadopoulos, not dossier was trigger of the investigation: Paras 7-8 No sources Para 35 No sources Paras 36-37 "current and former officials" Para 40 "American officials"
