Did The Most Senior White House Official Lie to the NYT about the Content of the Comey Firing Letter? https://www.emptywheel.net/2018/01/04/did-the-most-senior-white-house-official-lie-to-the-nyt-about-the-content-of-the-comey-firing-letter/ …

Why? The whole point is he doesn't directly challenge Trump because he wants to maintain access, and this story shows that he has...access.
-
Because there's a lot in that story that likely came from the interview.
-
Was anyone arguing that the access that NYT have gotten as a result of not directly challenging the president hasn't led to good reporting? That can be true and it can also be true that even the best reporting is not the same as great journalism.

By your logic we're not allowed to praise good work if we've ever been critical of their bad work. Brilliant.
-
By my logic the interview everyone hated had a bunch (off the record most likely) that went into this story everyone loves.

The issue with the interview was one of style and lack of substance. He got access and used that to become a tape recorder versus an interviewer. In yesterday's report he was just stating facts. Shows he should stick to the investigations beat versus the interview one
-
Do you know what went on in the OTR sections?
-
How do we know there was an OTR session? Given how loose Trump was, its hard to see from the transcript where and what those topics might be.

I hold both views - that wasn’t good, this is good - and think that’s perfectly reasonable.
-
That’s how I feel about Kristol and Frum. They were wrong then, and they’re right on certain issues now.

The two are not mutually exclusive. Mike does some great work. Many said so last week, including me. That piece last week was stenography. No one hits a home run every time. Sometimes, we blow it. Others, we're rockstars. Today was the latter for Mike. Congrats to him.

I can’t believe you can’t let this go. People can do both good work and bad work. What the hell is wrong with you. Are your kids totally good every second of the day???

Wait a second. So if he writes one good story he can be forgiven for a stupid one? That's not how it works. If he writes a story to be a stenographer he will be called a stenographer. If he writes an investigative story he will called investigative reporter.

For 12 months its been a very high percentage of stenography and Jarvanka puff pieces and suddenly after the Wolff book leaks they have an interest in actual journalism? Someone with access and agenda has decided the wheels are coming off and it’s time to drop this stuff.

these things are not mutually exclusive. We as us citizens can say not pushing back last week was trash and that this is a great article. Not sure what that’s hard to understand

@adamgoldmanNYT@maggieNYT Is this supposed to be a criticism? It only shows people are fair. If you mess up, they call you out. If you do your job well, you get deserves plaudits. It's simple.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Oh ffs. Someone can critique someone’s work without thinking they’re not a good journalist.
