You call Downer "Ambassador", while NYT referred to him as "Australia’s top diplomat in Britain" (which confused me even at the time). So I just now discovered why NYT phrased it as they did: Because Downer's official title is High Commissioner of Australia to the United Kingdom.

Downer may claim he heard P mention "hacked Democratic Party emails" but he didn't put the claim on the record until after the DNC hack was in the newspapers. Anyone can claim prior knowledge of info that's already public. There's no probative value there unless P corroborates.
