So I assume the new movie is the same chewed out old formula of: - Imperium builds new, better superweapon - the brave, brave Rebels after a bit of drama and maybe breaking someone out of prison exploit one flaw and the superweapon blows up? (haven't seen it yet)

I mean, not really. The only "superweapon" really deployed didn't get destroyed really, as much as it was mostly ineffectual, as far as I recall.
