Remember: George Papadopoulos remained in Trump orbit all the way through transition. He flipped in late July. Mueller obtained these emails in August. So possible GP alerted him to stuff withheld.
So pretty much most of the interviews Mueller's team has conducted haven't been about evidence gathering as much as letting Trump associates make false statements to the FBI and then flipping them

Sketchy reporting so far, but based on Axios, I don't think transition emails were withheld, it appears Mueller team had not yet asked for them at all. Transition team had done some sorting, intending to withhold stuff. Mueller just did end around.
I think that's a possible reading, though I highly doubt it. FBI would have asked for transition emails by the time of the Flynn interview, if not just thereafter. No way FBI waits until August.
So transition team was emailing personal lawyers in Dec, 4 mos b4 invest was made public. Cd b nothing
