Here's what I want to know. I think TFA failed bc it dodged the problem of why Rebel Alliance never has to govern. Does Last deal with power at all or just household messiness?

Sounds like you might enjoy some of the Extended Universe books, which are set in the post-ROTJ New Republic era.

I really wish the new trilogy had done the same, but they felt the need to do an "everything back to normal" to place the good guys as the underdogs again.
