I had some thoughts on this (mini thread)https://twitter.com/hollyblomberg/status/940594512614776833 …

Why do you think Russia is now spreading (dis)info abt a hack if there was no hack? That's kind of ... unlikely.

I recommend following
@yashalevine. I saw this interesting piece on his TLhttps://twitter.com/meduza_en/status/940615568452972544 … -
I recommend reading what I've linked which suggested the same thing hours ago. But that still doesn't explain why RU would deflect about a hack if no hack occurred?
-
Yeah, well, a hack of some kind seemed to have occurred. The question is: Who did it. What's most shocking to me about this all: news about the supposed hack aren't coming from US intel but from Russian journalists. Why does the USG continue to maintain secrecy?
-
Because USG is conducting a criminal investigation?
-
I guess that's one way to describe that leaky debacle.
-
The hack investigation is or was separate from the Mueller investigation. And the leaks from Mueller are coming from witnesses. Most leaks are coming from Congressional investigations, sho.

1. It's not as bad as evidence Mueller has or 2. A warning to Trump because he's screwing up; each release of info goes a step toward revealing something Trump did and doesn't want out. In the case of no. 2, they may have Trump incriminating himself on tape (non dossier).
-
Remember, Mueller is not SUPPOSED to be investigating the hack.

Kozlovsky is out and about posting on Facebook? Story doesn't add up knowing that he is pitching a version implicating FSB. The Russian story probably is that he is implicating a rogue within FSB that was working with US and directing him to hack. Makes it interesting. :)
-
You did notice he was arrested the day BEFORE the emails were exfiltrated, probably?
-
And yet he is now posting on Facebook (Aug 14th)?

I wondered the same, and decided this was probably an effort to get western news media to bite on a fabricated story, which could then be turned around and used to illustrate how western news media can't be trusted. Also, it could be argued Kozlovsky is leaking state secrets

To maintain maximum tension btwn competing realities. Best case for Russia: the worst is proven, but it no longer matters.
