I just googled "Assad, FBI informant" (the only details you gave us) & nothing comes up. But in any case, I'd already answered your whataboutist question in another thread:https://twitter.com/bernielosev/status/935537485777477632 …

We should oppose it whenever it happens, regardless of who does it. But, of course, we should support the right to hand out leaflets. Hence, Gessen's comparison is ridiculous.

Have you ever considered how those who use the term whataboutism unconsciously situate themselves in the Jim Crow era and mindset from which it stems?

That's not actually what I said. I said the people who use it don't reflect on how the term derives from a normalization of Jim Crow.

And you have been using racially charged language unthinkingly, and are too embarrassed to think it through now.

Whataboutism is from Jim Crow? WTF

Nooooo. The US dismissal of what we call Soviet whataboutism was racist, because it dismissed the import of lynchings and similar.

You're fabricating a meaning of the term that never existed. Luckily nobody here is buying it.

it's a logical fallacy - tu quoque - and is used to deflect from responding to a legitimate query, which is what happened up above, then you ran off the rails into accusing someone who is also interested in a legitimate answer of being racially insensitive. WTF.
