The false choice game here is STRONG. Logical people can loathe both Tom Friedman and RT's pro-Trump efforts.https://twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/934027180325199873 …

This Tom Friedman hagiography of the Saudi tyrant who is killing actual reformers & imposing famine and destruction on Yemen is - without hyperbole - utterly disgusting. If the Saudi regime bought a full-page ad in the NYT, it'd be less fawning and shameless than this column: https://twitter.com/AASchapiro/status/933914024982564866 …

Maybe the two most admired-and-feted-in-DC foreign policy columnists at America's two most influential papers who are constantly on TV have slightly more impact than a foreign news outlet with 30,000 viewers.

Why are bad American columnists relevant to bad foreign election interference? America messes with other country's sovereignty. It is wrong. Russia messed with Americans and assisted a truly dangerous and evil man. Former doesn't mitigate the latter.

Bad American columnists are a vehicle for foreign influence peddling as surely as RT is, but they are far more effective. RU did a job on US election, but RT was a blip in it. Why ban RT and not FB and Twitter which played a bigger role (I ask, rhetorically)?

I am not arguing about RT registering. I am saying the claim we should down play illegal hacks and violations of election law that make DNC break in of 1972 look comically tiny by comparison bc Tom Friedman is terrible (true!) makes no sense.

I think we need to purge DC of outside influence peddling altogether. The Saudis and Israelis have a huge role in our genocide supporting foreign policy, for example. And pundits like Friedman are part of that economy.

I think we can push against and reduce, purge seems optimistic. I am hopeful that we can have a bit of a Reformation in American politics post-Trump, but that is far from inevitable

Sure. I just think seeing the damage as any more excusable just bc they launder our favored genocidal autocrats is a mistake.
