I am missing a link here. Did Elias pay Steele directly? Or did he pay Fusion GPS and say, get me Christopher Steele. Or did he just pay Fusion GPS and tell them to do whatever needed to be done?

Well, without direction from Elias to hire Steele or specifically pursue the dossier, the responsibility for the dossier then belongs to Fusion GPS. The Dems did not "commission" the dossier...as that is the kinda stuff I hear from conserv friends.

Bear with me please.... Trump's ties to Russian mob money go way back. Some of that's been public knowledge. I can easily see Elias/DNC saying to Fusion GPS....we want to follow that trail. It's not the same as saying "Hire Steele, Go To Russia and get me every dirty thing"

As I noted in the piece, they hired Fusion, then only after DNC hack did Steele get hired. Perkins Coie was dealing with both, and there were other known feedback loops.
