Figure skating. Gymnastics is probably even more intense but there's a kinship between the two because there are really no other sports that require such intense training at a young age.

Yup. Had a college roommate who was 3rd in the country in skating when she quit at 16. I heard a fair amount abt it. But also seemed really hard for her to have left the sport.

Yeah, at that level, your identity is completely wrapped up in it. I quit around the same age (and was not third in the country good!) and you don't even know what to do with your time.

Yup. She had 2 years of "normal" high school (which weren't an easy transition) and then college.
