I got my PhD there, so no, but neither did I pay tuition.

BS 1991. Partial profile match of stereotypical out-of-stater (Ivy League reject, or in my case MIT), but from WI, not coastal. Less $ than stereotypical out-of-stater (not-poor). East-Coast assumed I was in-state, in-state, opposite. Fascinating intersectional view for me...

I can see how that would be. My PhD was in CompLit, so I taught CompLit, Great Books, and Communications, listed in order of how many poorer students i had.

Tho I will say that Tommy Hendricks took a friend's African lit class and did really well, even during the season.

@UC_President Janet Napoleono directs CA UC system to exclude in-state students for wealthy foreign ones because they pay more. UCSC admissions director objected so they fired him.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Folks for whom the American dream isn't real, like many of my neighbors, are understandably angry. They may have chosen the wrong standard-bearer but their frustration at no future for their kids is real.

So sad. I grew up in Ann Arbor and loved U of M. Now, they seem to have morphed into an elitist institution that I would not recognize.
