    140 is easier to scan, especially on mobile. Columns are too narrow to read more vertical messages easily.

        Agree. Much easier on desktop (depending on client) and on Twitter app on ipad. BUT: length issue is a bit of special pleading. We all hourly read longer screenshots from NYT, WaPo, etc. with no trouble at all.
