Sessions says the data collected from US providers "originates abroad." By that I guess he means CA?

702 by definition involves domestic provider assistance, by definition originate in US, usu in CA.

Sorry, lost the tweet in flood then. As you can see, 702 by definition must require assistance of domestic provider. Thus my point.

I don’t understand why Seasions’ comment is inconsistent based on your quote. Data originated overseas, flows thru US infrastructure. Right?

Sometimes a foreigner originates a comm. Sometimes an American does.

I think you are mistaken, but this may be one of those things too complex for 140 chars. Happy to discuss in DM if you'd like.

BTW here's the best article I've been able to find on the current status of 702. Good for non-lawyers like me.http://foreignpolicy.com/2017/10/13/congress-wants-to-tie-the-intelligence-communitys-hands-for-no-reason/?utm_content=buffer2f86b&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer …

Here is my response to just one badly inaccurate part of it. There are other problems with it. https://www.emptywheel.net/2017/10/15/ben-wittes-and-susan-hennessey-endorse-judicial-lawbreaking/ …

If we're going to distinguish ourselves as a law-abiding nation, Congress should have authority to reinforce intent when judges ignore it.
