Abundant tweets about civil liberties & national security. "Has a longer memory than an elephant & keeps more records than Jim Comey.” Legendary potty mouth.

In September, DHS banned government agencies from using Kaspersky. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/09/13/kaspersky-software-banned-242664 … For a long time, and especially since the ban, reporters have been asking officials for evidence of the harm Kaspersky causes. They've declined to elaborate. We now have one example.
It's worth noting that there's no evidence that Kaspersky actively helped Russia discover or steal these files. Its software just detected them.
Eric Geller Retweeted Eugene Kaspersky
Kaspersky prebuttal implies that the software found the NSA files while scanning for signs that the machine had been hackedhttps://twitter.com/e_kaspersky/status/915946040561487875 …
Eric Geller added,
If the contractor's files contained code that matched code in NSA malware, this would make sense. The main job of an antivirus program is to detect that kind of stuff.
.@SenatorShaheen, who has led the congressional push to ban Kaspersky from U.S. government networks, calls the NSA breach story "a stark warning" about the dangers of using Kaspersky software.pic.twitter.com/FYYFGzQlyp
N.B.: Rob Joyce, who now oversees all cyber policy for the Trump administration, was the head of the NSA's elite hacking unit when all of this happened. Bet he's pissed.
So why didn't we find out about it when he headed it up, only 2 years later?
I suspect this is not a story that the NSA enjoys having out there
But the story reports that it was only discovered this year, meaning it wasn't discovered under Joyce.
So why wasn't it? Why wasn't it discovered when NSA hacked Kaspersky in 2015? Or was it but buried ... and did Joyce know?
