I'm not worried about this Equifax thing. I changed my SSN after the OPM hack, and now it has a letter and a special character.

SSN isn't a big problem as an account identifier, it's a big problem as an authentication secret.

What Tim said. I would suggest a national ID, but as usual we're more content to design a bad one through the back door.
