Why is the FBI going after WannaCry hero Marcus Hutchins (@MalwareTechBlog)? @emptywheel has an interesting theory.https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/yww85w/malwaretech-marcus-hutchins-wannacry-kronos-legal-explainer …
Aug 2016: No interest in arrested MWT bc Kronos is unimportant. May 2017: A back door search makes MWT--but not Kronos--look very different.

So? What is the theory? Both facts were already widely known and he was indicted for Kronos.

Not sure what you're suggesting. Also, you DID note the bit about Kelihos?
-
You DO know that the FBI routinely arrests people to coerce them for information unrelated to charge at hand?
-
MWT was already providing them with info before arrest. Are you implying that he was involved in Kelihos somehow or what?
-
No... You DID read this right?
-
I'm suggesting that looking at "WannaCry sinkhole" w/stuff they had on MWT is different than "Kronos" w/stuff they had on him.
-
So is the theory that he was involved with WannaCry? Or that when they looked him up then, they found something Kronos-related?
