The thing that concerns me about the @briankrebs piece is not that it proves/disproves MWT's involvement in criminal activity 1/

What Krebs showed was that MWT did play in that community. Which means *something* will almost certainly come in.
-
The problem is that once that gets established, I think the case is going to get very muddy and very technical.
-
Again, we're arguing abt an indictment that I would bet will not be what we're looking at at trial, if there is one.

A different take on the Krebs on Security post about
@malwaretechblog 's past. https://www.slickrockweb.com/a-different-take-on-marcus-hutchins.php …#infosec#cybersecurity -
Interesting, thanks. Should have a post up tomorrow that will be of interest.
-
Thanks! I'll for it tomorrow.
-
The sabotage of the fundraiser would play right into that. I know we're not supposed to talk about that but someone really has it in for him
-
I was thinking the same thing. That fundraising mess was more than just a practical joke IMHO. It was purposefully malicious.

There's good reason to believe govt at least doesn't currently intend to bring it in, based on public record of the case.
-
Mind you, I think it likely they'll supersede if their claims abt Kronos go to shit, as I think they might. But not with stuff from Krebs.
-
Right. But it's not just about the Krebs stuff. It's about whether it's possible to play in that sandbox at all without looking dirty.
-
Which will be what the battle over Rule 404 is about. Again, thus far it doesn't appear they want to bring all this in.
-
Again, my guess is that even if the teenage stuff doesn't come in, lots of other non-relevant but incriminating conversations will.
-
And I say "incriminating" in the sense that they won't be actual violations of the law, but will look like spooky hacker stuff.
-
Also likely to cloud sentencing.
-
But yeah, the modern Internet means the stupid stuff technically inclined "invincible" teens sometimes do now has ruinous consequences.
