By press protection are you referring to subpoena rules that'd be irrelevant for a foreigner overseas, living in an Embassy?

There are many internal policy rules about press that IC agencies follow. It is very unlikely they are applying any of these to WL.

Calling someone "press" is more policy than law. 1st A applies regardless of "press" label. Doesn't apply to non-US persons outside US.
