The thing you missed at outset of argument is US instigated the current confrontation by the imposition of sanctions. That was from US side.

NK started doing missile tests as response to US sanctions or "standing up to a bully". This is not case of Trump being tough. US instigated

What relevance does that have to 2017? When I wasn't there (or alive) in 1950s, the US killed 1/5 of North Korea's population.
