I live in Flyover. And I actually DO get surprised responses, all the time, when people learn I do stuff w/men who are not my spouse.https://twitter.com/lexlanham/status/881610784849223680 …

Anyway, this appears, at first blush, to be @nytimes trying to normalize the freakish behavior of our 46th president.

If the polling is valid I think it's an important lesson abt how hard-wired gender roles still are for most of the country.

@nytimes needs to explain the timing of this poll. But I believe the damage is done, even when it is exposed as statistically dubious.

There are a lot of areas where gaps bt coast and flyover are overblown. Not here. Really liberal people shocked I'll travel w/men, etc.

It also helps to explain why people still struggle w/LBGTQ issues: bc their own gender roles are based on innate distrust.

People have such a low opinion of other people. (Or themselves?) But then, given 2016, maybe I have too much faith in humanity.

Dunno if you agree that this is more common in Flyover, but maybe not Ann Arbor/LV. I do get it here.

Little Rock had kind of a different vibe. They didn't understand me, single woman in her 30s, but they were friendly.
