Even funnier: conflation of how many zero days NSA keeps and how often it uses the ones it does keep and develop.

As soon as
@fmkaplan masters which were pre-existing ransomwares & which the NSA tool, he should read this & rewrite https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/technology/nsa-officials-worried-about-the-day-its-potent-hacking-tool-would-get-loose-then-it-did/2017/05/16/50670b16-3978-11e7-a058-ddbb23c75d82_story.html …

This is Fred Kaplan's "corrected" post. I wonder if he knows he's breaking big news here?pic.twitter.com/6uA0FyVnF0

Also, I don't know what Kaplan relies on for certainty WannaCry is NK if he didn't read this. He appears not to have https://www.symantec.com/connect/blogs/wannacry-ransomware-attacks-show-strong-links-lazarus-group …

Oh, I know the argument. It has been made by 2 entities. One (this one) makes it clear that something named WannaCry existed before SB dump.
-
Meaning EVEN ON THE ISSUE he corrected he's still wrong. But then the whole thing is a shit show. Buy Fred's book.

How is this inaccurate?

The tool is Eternal Blue. WannaCry and Petra are both malwares that pre-existed Shadow Brokers. SB is not known to have launched Petra.

His book, Dark Territory, had similar howlers.
-
Did it? I didn't bother, assuming (given Kaplan's egregious errors on Snowden) it would suck. Glad I avoided it.
-
Yeah, many stupid mistakes, like conflating WWW & Internet, saying Netscape "Matrix" browser, misdescribing DDoS, calling BBN "BNN", etc.

So basically everything in the article is wrong...wow.
@Slate -
Yeah, pretty much every single thing is wrong. But hey! Buy his book!
-
Oh,wait, they're claiming Shadow Brokers launched NotPetya? First I've heard of that...or maybe it's just bad writing w/no editor

This is either the laziest of reporting or the most intentional of provocation.
