No. I'm talking about the actual evidence, which I've written about extensively. You're talking abt claims presented in indictment.

You would do well to learn the facts of the case bc it holds you can go to prison off 4 minutes and 11 seconds of metadata.

Just so I am clear are you saying that he didn't leak any classified data for "State of War" or that the government cant prove that he did?

I don't know whether he did. I sat through most of the trial and never saw anything that'd get me to beyond reasonable doubt, esp for 1st 3.

But then I know there were 3 other people who were better candidates for leaking the ACTUAL classified info on those charges.

And just so I am clear: are you saying people should go to prison based off metadata?

That is hyperbole. It wasn't metadata alone. It was the fact he knew of the program and the metadata.

Yes. A lot of people knew of the program. Several never had their metadata collected. Several were more likely candidates.

According the public record it's not clear that FBI ever even got the metadata from their first suspect.

I am not sure if you are arguing "more people should be punished" or "it could be anyone, so punish no one"?

I think we both know when you are given access to classified materials you give up some of the freedoms your fellow citizens have.

That's a straw man. You don't give up the freedom to have non-classified conversations.

You dont, but if a reporter you are having non-classified conversations with writes a book with classified information you are screwed.

Yes. This establishes standard that providing unclassified tips is sufficient to send you to prison. I find that utterly objectionable.

Then you should be offended that those 3 charges were upheld. I might support the other ones (for the book). But not the unwritten NYT story
