I don't know whether he did. I sat through most of the trial and never saw anything that'd get me to beyond reasonable doubt, esp for 1st 3.

That is hyperbole. It wasn't metadata alone. It was the fact he knew of the program and the metadata.

Moreover, there are actually details that were leaked that it's not clear Sterling knew. Again, this is evidence presented at trial.
