It has always bugged me men get called Sir and women usually get called Miss. I'm rather old for Miss

Incidentally I don't share FB vids but there's a great UN one playing on gender-less pronouns in Georgian that focuses on lady ruggers.
-
I did not know Georgian language was genderless. Awesome!
-
Doubt it is entirely. But then lines in question were, effectively "s/he is a great rugger" with the reveal being the players were girls

Same here for women addressing me as 'honey'. 'Sir' doesn't enamour me either, but better, imho
-
Oh, I don't mind "honey" but that's not gendered. I guess it's the same thing though.
-
For me 'honey' is a term of endearment, imo using it implies a relationship that isn't there. So not an age thing and prob just me . goml .

I always say ma'am, but I'm from Alabama, where politeness is just about our only virtue.

when I worked at a supermarket during high school, many women customers hated when I referred to them as "ma'am." said it "aged" them

Finally, one good thing abut the south, the prevalence of "Ma'am".

I get what you're saying - Miss is a tad ridiculous when you reach a certain age, but I gotta admit, when I reached the certain age, it...

Stung a bit when I hit ma'am status. :)

Working at a high-end restaurant, I used to universally "ma'am". Got push-back from people saying they were too young for that.
-
Switched to universal Miss.

That's dicey. I've had women get very upset when I called them ma'am.

My neighborhood Scottish chippy lady loved me, because I reflexively called her "Ma'am," and she felt like the Queen.

Ma'am sounds older than Miss to me.
