Sessions Recusal: Election And/Or Russia? https://www.emptywheel.net/2017/06/09/sessions-recusal-election-andor-russia/ … Update: Was firing Comey bc of Rosenstein memo election related?
Why? If there was a memo fr March, it'd have been released. Moreover, it's possible under recent strain w/Trump Sessions is moving the ball.

bc easiest/safest to recycle previously approved wording rather than craft something new when they are still being coy
-
How are they being coy? This was clearly an attempt to respond to Comey's testimony and it clearly departs from his on this critical point.
-
Not coy: "it was for that reason, and that reason alone, the Attorney General made the decision on March 2, 2017 to recuse himself "
-
Right but 3/2 is recusal from any investigation related in any way to the 2016 campaigns, and 3/20 description of the Russia investigation
-
makes clear that it encompasses both election meddling per se & nature of any links btwn Russia & individuals associated w/ Trump campaign
-
A piece of this may be that Sessions doesn't want to admit that he recused because of exposure of his false testimony re Russia contacts
-
So keeping to the 3/2 wording, and the nicer-sounding reason that he was involved in Trump campaign w/out regard to Russia, saves face
-
So your statement is, based off nothing, you're saying DOJ's statement from Thursday was false?
