Because they acted to attempt to stop further leaks by a treasonous president. (Don't necessarily agree, but that's the argument)

Yup. But they didn't need to SHARE THE CITY with the WaPo and CNN to do that.
-
Yeah. The folks doing the leaking may have been well-meaning, but maybe not super-sensible. Better than average for the current WH, though.

I thought WP withheld the part that they were asked to. They checked with McMaster prior to running story.

Just a guess but because the leakers went to WaPo after the allies were informed. Purpose of leak is to force action domestically.

I understood that the WH contacted those allies after Trump flapped his lips. Besides... seems like it's necessary: http://theresurgent.com/i-know-one-of-the-sources/ …pic.twitter.com/XDm1UVtq1V

Because 1) WaPo went out of it's way not to reveal secrets in its reporting 2) WaPo hasn't been complaining re: leakers 3) WaPo isn't POTUS

Does it follow that the officials urging WaPo to withhold details are the same officials who tipped WaPo to the story?
-
It reads to me like it could be the sources they used to confirm details urged them to hold back some info they got from the initial tips.
