Serious, non-combative Q: What's the difference between retail workers losing jobs to online, and labor workers losing jobs to automation?
-
-
-
To clarify, you're asking diff bt: 1) retail losing to online AND 2) labor (industrial?) losing to automation ??
-
Correct. It seems it's happening for a lot of the same reasons, and we should address/accept it all the same.
-
I think it is very similar, agree we should address it in similar ways. I think the retail adds a big Q abt locality we would need to asnwer
-
Part of 1) is prolly a) local b) Walmart c) Amazon.
-
I'd add that automation with diversity might bring more life back to manufacturing. But that diversity isn't fostered.
-
I feel that retail and manufacturing are on the way out, same as coal. There's no use in trying to revive/subsist it. Need to look forward.
-
That isn't to say we shouldn't mourn unemployment. But we should go with the trends, not against them.

unfortunately for jobs, automation is inevitable. Do you whine about the loss of jobs in the steam train industry?
-
Sorry. You're describing as a single store serving many needs of the country as exclusively abt automation. Why?
-
its stupid to lament jobs lost while typing on the computers that made so many jobs obsolete (5/5)
-
Except you're assuming that's what I'm doing, exclusively. You appear to be blind the consolidation part, which isn't abt tech.
-
if this was JUST about tech, Bezos would be lucky to be a billionaire.
-
I'll freely admit I helped make bozos a billionaire. It's far easier, and cheaper, to shop on http://Amazon.com than to schlep (1/3)

not as excited as the Amazon warehouse workers stuck in a security line for an hour unpaid just to leave work...
-
Those 60K people are prolly busting their ass to get the wait in line for an hour for free job. But yeah, lots of humans losing to Bezos.
-
just as long as we remember that 'darkness' kills democracy, not the destruction of the middle class.
