Obama has the self-awareness to know why, in this turbulent, cross-party populist moment, it won't help his or his party's brand; still, https://twitter.com/lpolgreen/status/856994629094449152 …

So what is the post-globalization answer that isn't populism/ethno-nationalism. Exactly. There's the problem in a nutshell
-
Marc is right: it needs to be a narrative. Might be about sustainability writ large, but that ideology doesn't start in US.
-
Narratives only work when there is an Enemy to blame failures on. Gonna be hard to beat lizard-brain appeal of ethno-populism
-
Not sure the enemy needs to be ethnic. Could be corporatist of a type.
-
I agree, and think that really is the enemy of the masses right now. But the appeal of ethnic-based hatred is really hard to beat
-
Sure, but that's changing generationally, at least here.
-
But the other thing to remember is ideologies get built--they don't just happen. The other ones are very well funded.
-
Tom Steyer is trying!

Globalism isn't going anywhere. Technology will only bring us closer together.
-
Well then it sure as hell better 1) start delivering on its promises better than it has 2) find a way to explain itself to non-wonks.
