I live in a state where moderate Republicans flip-flopped on RTW bc of explicit campaign $$ promises.
-
That's state-legislature-race money. US-Senate-race money, different scale.
-
Yup. But these folks have plenty, and have spent plenty for decades.
-
For any R who didn't much like DeVos but voted Aye, this was a "team" vote, not a "special-interest" vote.

Do you think Collins or Murkowski would still have voted no if just 1 or 2 more Republicans had decided to do so?
-
To me it reeked of a couple of "moderates" seeking dispensation to maintain their cover w/their voters w/out tipping the vote.
-
Probably was. But I'm willing to give them credit. Fewer GOPers here voted against DeVos $$ on RTW vote.
-
This had a more public face, but I'm cautiously ok w/judging actions over intent. Cautiously.

I'm betting Collins and Murkowski would have voted yes if their votes were necessary. They were just allowed cover.

Collins did too by letting it get out of committee. Her no Vote after that was purely cosmetic.

and the contributions arent even big

At least in the 80s pols like the Keating 5 sold out for 7 figure sums. Today $8k buys a Senator's soul.

And even those two would've voted yes if they'd had to (like they did in committee).
