Warner, Feinstein, and Reed all voted for pro-torture Pompeo, now writing sternly written letter telling him not to torture. #NotHowItWorkshttps://twitter.com/MarkWarner/status/827561737004122112 …

Here's the roll call: https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=115&session=1&vote=00032 … (Leahy and Cardin voted against)

why is a letter less effective then a useless protest vote?

For starters, there's a legitimacy granted by a vote, an endorsement of ideas that were in the public record.

Also, votes are a time when one can exercise leverage. Letters? They come after someone has kissed most leverage away.

how do you know warner didn't exert leverage in exchange for the vote?

If he did he didn't get much in exchange. Pompeo was pretty radical in his confirmation process.

my point is: warner had no leverage either way. If he got a private assurance of something, then it was net benefit

My point is that Pompeo is a far right candidate who has espoused unconstitutional policies. Voting for him sanctions them.

you really think Pompeo was going to determine whether or not to torture based on symbolic nos?
