why is a letter less effective then a useless protest vote?
-
For starters, there's a legitimacy granted by a vote, an endorsement of ideas that were in the public record.
-
Also, votes are a time when one can exercise leverage. Letters? They come after someone has kissed most leverage away.
-
how do you know warner didn't exert leverage in exchange for the vote?
-
If he did he didn't get much in exchange. Pompeo was pretty radical in his confirmation process.
-
my point is: warner had no leverage either way. If he got a private assurance of something, then it was net benefit
-
My point is that Pompeo is a far right candidate who has espoused unconstitutional policies. Voting for him sanctions them.
-
you really think Pompeo was going to determine whether or not to torture based on symbolic nos?

Didn't he say he was against it? Or has he changed his mind/it was one o'they
#alternativefacts ? -
He said torture report was bogus, w/o reading it. Said we're moving forward. Said he won't bring "torture" back
@Thomas_Drake1 -
Hmm. Ok so he was clear as mud, then :)

To be fair, he got grilled on this one in Committee hearings. Stated strongly not to be pro. Keep your facts straight please.
-
Yeah, I consider that word games. Specifically as regards reconsidering Appendix M.
-
He also admitted to defending torturers even without reading the torture report about what they had done.
-
You probably have a better reading there. He did though affirm that is - off limits. I consider the Dem Votes - Goodwill
