Remember: McCain was the FIRST person to start rehabbing Petraeus after he passed code word intel to his mistress & got no punishment.https://twitter.com/SenJohnMcCain/status/821491093590208517 …

So: Conduct espionage to get laid? You're a McCain hero. Leak documents to try to prevent torture? Espionage.

(I don't think Petraeus conducted espionage, FWIW, any more than Manning did. But his motives were all about self-glorification.)

Actually yes, tho FBI sort of covered that up. There's stuff that Petraeus orally gave her that's in the book. @ggreenwald

You realize you're conflating two roles here? Petraeus = Manning, not Broadwell. @ggreenwald

I'm not. Petreus was grossly irresponsible, but he didn't end up aiding the enemy. Manning clearly did.

No. Actually you are. There are leakers (Petraeus, Manning) and journalistic outlets (WL, NYT, Broadwell). @ggreenwald

The actual CONTENT of what Petreaus leaked is far more dangerous, even ignoring his lying to the FBI about it. @ggreenwald
