Given that NSA/CIA hacked Mexico's election in 2012, and Mexico is a US ally, does that mean NSA and CIA must be sanctioned now?
A claim I was NOT making in my tweet--one you had to have imposed--was that NSA leaked texts it hacked from EPN.

But I'd say targeting EPN or Pakistan's People's Party is undermining election processes or institutions.
-
.
@emptywheel if it as selectively leaked, sure. but i don’t see how that kind of collection on its own undermines processes. -
What if it was used to blackmail EPN to ditch key campaign promises? Is that democratic? How are they using this info?
-
.
@emptywheel i don’t know how they are using the info. But if you go to the original q: do you believe it is the same as what Russia did? -
I don't believe it is same. I do believe it is interference w/election. I do believe we've done very similar w/non democracies
-
And that's setting aside all the data that shows CIA intervened more than RU during Cold War.

@emptywheel which is why i asked for clarification. People can take different meanings via this medium. Appreciate the thoughtful 1/ -
As I said, nothing in the tweet said they were the same. I DO think the US has no qualms abt hacking, say, Podesta w/others.
-
The Syria Files also seems to suggest USG has no qualms abt leaking docs to WL when seeking regime change.
