So let's review what we know: 1) In September, CIA briefed this, and McConnell (who's unreliable) didn't buy it. https://www.emptywheel.net/2016/12/09/unpacking-new-cia-leak-dont-ignore-aluminum-tube-footnote/ …

Since then, Harry Reid, then SSCI, then Adam Schiff, then others, called on O to declassify stuff.

On Nov 26, the White House released an irresponsible (bc anon) statement downplaying RU influence. https://www.emptywheel.net/2016/11/28/white-house-attempts-unring-election-integrity-fearmongering/ …

More Dems: release the Kraken, release the Kraken! Finally, McCain, then Lindsey, joined in, by more Republicans.

CIA briefed again this week. WaPo's story is somewhat contradictory. Maybe consensus view among IC, maybe some "minor disagreements."

ALERT ALERT! Aluminum tubes were a "minor disagreement," relegated to a footnote we all wish Senators (incl most involved here) had read.

So today, White House says, "OK, let's do an all-IC assessment of CIA's theories, shall we?" Hours later, this leak occurs.

Effectively, this is CIA (and Dem Senators) trying to pre-empt the WH review. They've given you the answer, who needs more?

It raises two issues. First: was it FSB or GRU that hacked RNC? If the former, well, the FSB is not believed to have leaked. Just GRU is.

Also, claim that "largely documents from Dem Party systems" were leaked? HUGE exception to this is Powell's emails. Those didn't help Trump.

Dunno. I'll have to look but one earlier analysis noted that RNC did not use Gmail or other that GRU had regular fakes for.
