One of the biggest side effects of GWOT, IMVHO, is that it created an industry (war) inside DC beltway.

Entire new cities of giant defense contractor buildings were built in VA. That's the visible sign of disinvestment in the rest of America.
-
And except for Lockheed's famous attention to sourcing planes that don't fly in many states, most of that investment passed flyover by.

We care about our trade deficit with China. What is our internal trade deficit?
-
These are good questions to raise. We also need to do more to organize in rural areas.
-
Yes, I absolute agree on that front.

I think emergency drops of better beer and weed could help flyover a lot.
-
.
@LucSkyward I think if flyover were in a good mood it might share some of its far superior beer with the coasts. -
Hey, Stone and Allagash are two of the best breweries in US! But fine the best are in CO and MI is pretty good too
-
Founders and Bells are clearly two of the best too. But there's space there.
-
I'm actually not a huge Bells fan but I do love me some Dark Horse whenever I can find it Founders is in top tier of breweries
-
In any case, the local Bells is just an airport outpost. It's still 1 hour away. Tho in SD terms that's local.

There are plenty of progressives living/from there. And calling it "flyover" is part of the problem.
-
Why is calling it flyover part of the problem?
-
I'm a bit shocked that you asked. It's elitist. You don't go there, you fly over. Except, some folks live there.
-
I live here. I, and many other people I know here, call it flyover. We call it flyover because we're aware that's what happens.
-
Didn't know that. We sure didn't call it that in MO.
-
They may now. I live in W MI. In hippy Grand Rapids, but it gets rural really quickly.
-
I've only been gone a few years, but maybe. Progressive enclaves might be more inclined to pick up on such...

love the sentiment, but not the language - can we stop calling midwesterners/plains-staters "flyover"? They're people, not maps!
-
Do you live there? I do.
-
I'm from Michigan - a wonderful place I'm proud to be from. All my family is there. Have also lived on both coasts (in CA now).
