I try to use native plants as much as possible in my yard, but my neighbors must think it's strange seeing me prune sagebrush and milkweed.
My whole front yard was natives in Ann Arbor. My neighbors were, um, confused when I did a burn.

natives on purpose? Or they just grew there?
-
On purpose. Had them landscaped in.
-
Yeah that's the problem with native plants, especially when you water them.
-
The burn was also intentional. It cleans out the non-natives, healthy for the natives.
-
I need to do that, all my weeds have developed a resistance to roundup.
-
Done properly (and with natives that are truly native to your location) you shouldn't need roundup at all.
-
I have about an acre of land and nothing was landscaped when I got here, so quite there yet.
-
See if you can find someone who will do a burn bc it's a good place to start and then build back in the natives.
