#pt-2: A lot of people today will be making naive conclusions based on weak evidence in an echo-chamber of good-vs-evil to condemn them.

Noteworthy is what war WASN'T fought over: Not about oil Not about intelligence reports of WMD. Not about imminent threat to UK/US

Clear Iraq was a war over values. Iraq seen as opposed to the international order by flouting UNSC res, using CW and invading neighbors.

Not clear at all. On the contrary. Multiple people on record saying we needed war. Beating up former client good enough.

Sure. These docs imply to me this was about clearing out bad regimes, and Iraq was for whatever reason top of the list.

And Iraq was a "bad regime" in this world view because it flouted UNSC resolutions, invaded neighbors and used CW on civilians.

Why the fuck would we go to war bc CW on civs when our sanctions had killed tens or hundreds of thousands?

because it was a moral crusade after 9/11. And direct deaths of CW aren't similar to indirect deaths of economic sanctions.

No. 9/11 had zero to do with it. It was planned before 9/11. 9/11 just provided cheap excuses for it, made it easier.

Obviously. Doesn't change that these docs say UK went to war over (a) recalculus post-9/11 and (b) pipe-dreams of intl-stability

Sure. But that doesn't eliminate the 13 prior years of known history, which is where that pipe-dream came from.
