Really interesting quiz about whether one lives in a class bubble. I got a 53. (Dunno if that's good or bad.)http://www.pbs.org/newshour/making-sense/do-you-live-in-a-bubble-a-quiz-2/ …

@emptywheel@anildash I agree with you, but I don't think that makes this quiz "problematic." Just specific. -
@libbybrittain Fair enough. But I'd love a better constructed one.@anildash -
@emptywheel@anildash On this we can agree. I'd love multiple axes. Class and race? Something like that maybe. -
@libbybrittain And geography. And probably nationality.@anildash

@emptywheel@anildash But what about the poor rural culture? Appalachia is massively poor and has been for as long as it's been counted -

@emptywheel@anildash McDonald's in many parts is the only chain in the area. -

@emptywheel@anildash LOL it's also very culture-specific and it doesn't account for another thing which is more rare but does happen... -
@emptywheel@anildash people who for whatever reason jump classes (e.g. celebrity, financial windfalls, marriage cross-class...) -
@emptywheel@anildash And it also is severely limited as much of the modern bubble class is transnational in some way or other. In fact -
@emptywheel@anildash having the financial ability to leave one's nation of birth willingly and succeed elsewhere is a marker of wealth -
@emptywheel@anildash and so the modern bubble class is, while not diverse and often aspiring to a "white, Western" standard... -
@emptywheel@anildash can include anything from Chinese and Saudis to Japanese and Russians...
