@aryballoi There's no consensus to that. Moreover, it did much of what it said it would--just not what boosters misleading claimed @lyda

@emptywheel @lyda Care to elaborate? Genuinely curious.

@aryballoi It did lower cost increases, increase those covered. It did not deliver--as boosters claimed it woudl-- health care for all @lyda

@emptywheel @lyda I'm really more surprised by how many people, often but not always in my demographic bracket, "opted out" regardless.

@emptywheel @lyda And it seems to be delivering significant cost increases, along with poorer coverage, for a swath of the middle class.

@aryballoi And it slowed our cost increases. PRices still increasing tho, bc it does too little to restrain add ons. @lyda

@emptywheel @lyda Don't get me wrong - you're right to say single-payer is cheaper than Obamacare/its forebears. But it ain't cheap.

@emptywheel @lyda What's cheap, and good for consumers and the economy, is when people spend their money on the product of their choice.

@aryballoi Except in cases where consumers aren't equipped to make sound choices. Then that approach is stupid and wasteful. @lyda

@emptywheel @lyda Such as? One can make a decent argument there for the mentally ill, a much weaker one for cancer patients.

@aryballoi But that expert guidance would only get paid if I did certain things: certain kinds of surgery, massive chemo, etc. @lyda

@emptywheel Cart still firmly before horse, I see. Why should any of it be paid for in the first place? Per @lyda, a question of foresight.

@emptywheel @lyda And I can personally attest, as a privately insured European, that single-payer doesn't lead to more choice.
