I'm an old fart. But I think cost of college is as much an impediment to success for millennial women as is reproductive freedom.

@emptywheel w/o comment on relationship to repro rights, i’d add cost of child care to your cost of college point

@KenGude I'm an old fart AND childless. So thanks for the reminder.

@KenGude No, I meant, "reminder of something that's not as obvious for me." Childless partly by choice, anyway.

@emptywheel ah. got it. and its not obvious for everyone. you hear a ton about saving for college, none for child care & its as expensive

@KenGude I've remembered it at other key times in my pundit hood, but not here. Think lots of millennials are just delaying family.

@emptywheel Does a new direction toward 6 years of college education effect women differently than men? What do we do about that?

@ckarath To be clear, I think college cost affects ALL millennials. Not making arg it affects women more. & isn't 6 yrs bc of cost?

@emptywheel No I'm referring more to time. Easier for men to delay children for a decade than women. It's not just a childcare issue either.

@emptywheel Well that makes sense. They are busier earlier in life. There is little discussion where it should stop? 6 yrs college, 8 yrs?

@ckarath Dunno. You're talking to someone who got PhD (albeit in 5 years rather than in my discipline's average 9). I favor long schooling!

@emptywheel I can see an argument, but one of those should be incredibly easy to solve.

@emptywheel OK, both are actually trivial to solve, damn this country does dumb shit a lot. #LeSigh

@jefffreyspies I think cost of college isn't trivial to solve. Good education involves a lot of time and other expensive resources.

@emptywheel The old UC system, or CUNY/SUNY models should be possible to recreate easily enough, but I agree reproductive control is easier.
