FBI affidavit shows Syed Farook radicalized as early as 2007; enthralled by AQAP's Awlaki then by ISIS. Not unlike other US jihadi cases.

@emptywheel we don't know extent of their readings and research and commitment to AQAP or ISIS except that they killed 14 innocents. -
@meekwire We know Farook's reading into AQAP was extensive. I'm not contesting that at all. We don't know abt ISIS. -
@emptywheel from the standpoint of consumers of the jihadi narrative, AQAP has been shouted down by ISIS for 2 years. -
@meekwire Yes. That's irrelevant to what we see in the affy. -
@emptywheel I disagree. We've seen US jihadis first dig AQ or Shabaab then latch onto ISIS after caliphate declared (I.e. Elton Simpson). -
@meekwire Look, you are as much a consumer of the "jihadi narrative" as they were, from the other side. You might wait for actual evidence. -
@emptywheel 18 years of it, but the influence hasn't quite taken hold. You're making assumptions off an affidavit. I said it was incomplete. -
@meekwire I'm not making any assumptions. I'm saying we don't know, you're saying "let's repeat easy narrative in absence of evidence." - 2 more replies
