@emptywheel What qualifies Assad as anymore a "jihad magnet" than our brutish Gulf Allies if not the deliberating stoking of sectarianism?

@franklin19788 That's what folo-up tweet about. Saudis are training us to take out their foes in response to ISIS. Like an obedient pup -
@emptywheel I just saw follow up tweet. I beat you to it by a couple of seconds :) -

@emptywheel No it is not. The Jihad magnet was the money the Gulf/U.S. spend to hire fighters and weapons. -
@MoonofA That's what second tweet said. Jihadis were paid to come, definitely. But PR (much western written) made civil war sexy. -
@emptywheel The "civil" war, planned since 2006, was induced and executed from the outside. There was no generic Syrian civil war.

@emptywheel@lrozen Which is weird if you buy Israeli-Palestinian conflict as the root of all terrorism and Assad as prime enemy of Israel. -
@emptywheel@lrozen The parallels with the Spanish civil war break down before you even scratch under the surface.
