Seriously: school buses CAN'T be the safest design as is. And they're so inefficient! What cartel is behind it?https://twitter.com/emptywheel/status/643503918463455236 …
@zeynep Oh, I'm willing to forgo seatbelt. But could you compartment the same on lower profile vehicle? Or do it better? @DaveMc99TA

@emptywheel@DaveMc99TA Lower smaller bus might need seatbelt. The things are connected, height, weight and not needing seatbelt. So... -
@zeynep I get all that. THe arguments are precisely same offered by Pickups. But little data tests these claims.@DaveMc99TA -
@emptywheel So I don't know who they are but.. The physics and the engineering arguments make sense. There's then long & impressive record. -

@emptywheel These buses are pretty heavy too, doubt they tip easily or often. Even when they do, design helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6NI8pTqY7Y … -
@emptywheel I don't doubt you could find some way to improve but I doubt you can make them smaller (but as said, then you need seatbelts). -
@zeynep Transit buses don't have seatbelts -- heck, or even seats for all riders. Not dramatically different on fatalities.
