Dennis Ross and Petraeus say Iran can't be treated like other countries bc state sponsor of terrorism. Like Cuba, until 90 days ago.

@youbsanctioned Yes, in Iraq, against an invader, and individual cases at least one with evidence implicating some other country.

@emptywheel I don't actually consider attacks on US soldiers in Iraq terrorism. But Iran has supported/perpetrated a great deal of terror

@youbsanctioned Iraq attacks are big part of how it is still on that list. As I said it is currently a piker compared to our allies

@emptywheel @youbsanctioned not sure degree of "piker" matters when financing Hezbollah, Hamas, Assad, etc

@srubenfeld That's when sovereignty/electoral politics comes into play, no? On same basis we excuse PK for backing Taliban? @youbsanctioned

@emptywheel @youbsanctioned valid point but it doesn't have anything to do with pikers or non-pikers. who says there's gotta be consistency?

@srubenfeld There obviously is no consistency on state terror list, which was my point. Cuba had NOT been sponsoring terror @youbsanctioned

@emptywheel @youbsanctioned It did as recently in the 80s, I thought? But what's 30 years between bitter neighbors

@srubenfeld 30 years and you're in the era when Iran SHOULD be called biggest state sponsor. So maybe that's it. @youbsanctioned
