SecDef Carter: DOD will invest in Silicon Valley through CIA's In-Q-Tel in nano-electronics and other technology. http://fcw.com/articles/2015/04/22/rewiring-the-pentagon.aspx …
@TimothyS Interesting bottleneck in what the entire security world considers a worthy start-up, that.

@emptywheel Indeed. CIA/In-Q-Tel is a major force in the tech industry - it's where many companies get initial funding & government markets. -
@TimothyS ... It would result in an echo chamber effect for what got funded. I don't like the IQT model, but ffs, do it right. -
@emptywheel What would be "doing it right"? Do we want massive military intel investment in tech companies? AKA National Security Socialism? -
@TimothyS Again, I don't like model at all, but if you're going to employ the model make sure that more than one entity is picking winners -
@emptywheel It's not just picking winners - it's more like steering them from the beginning into feeding the military-intelligence complex. -
@TimothyS Yes. But if you're going to do that (I don't want to!) better to have competing paths in, to get diverse ideas. -
@emptywheel Understand; good point. But if "diverse" includes all elements of intel, they got it. NSA, DIA, DHS all get a piece of In-Q-Tel.
